Another of my favourite bands, Saint Petersburg based Pinkshinyultrablast has been turning out great tunes since 2009. Their name comes from the title of a 2004 album by Chicago band Astrobrite. Unusual choice, since it’s typically cover bands that do that. I guess Astrobrite really inspired them. As much information as I could gather is in the above links, but it’s fairly sparse. Public image and theatrics don’t seem to interest these guys - they are all about the music. For all the material I searched through I couldn’t even find some of their full names!
To be honest, I didn’t like this band at first. Too screechy was my first reaction. Fortunately, I’ve learned not to trust first impressions so I always take a second and third look. Well by that time I was fully engaged and couldn’t stop listening. Truth is though, they are a bit screechy, so watch your ears. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a band with this much intense high-end, so please be careful, and maybe put the dog out when you play this. ‘The Overtones’ would have been a good name for this band.
