Hey thanks Tim. I was hoping to see her return as a solo act, but nothing so far, apart from her work with DJ Blyatman. I hope she finds a good producer. She's definitely got talent and a great personality, all she needs is some good material to work with.

I don't usually follow pop stars, but I do make the odd exception, one of which is the Japanese group Perfume. Perfume is a text book case where having the right producer makes all the difference. Yasutaka Nakata's music and lyrics really put them on the map - from typical girl group to international pop stars. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is another artist he produced who went big time. Someone should mention Loli to him. I'm guessing he might take an interest.

I understand the reference to Die Antwoord (only w/ a lot more class). Loli sounds a lot like Yolandi on the uptempo numbers. Must admit watching some DA videos as a guilty pleasure. They were vile but entertaining like a train wreck. This Gopnik rap stuff is similar, tho much less vile. I think the humor allows me to watch, salves the conscience. Self satire makes the sordid goings-on bearable. Like you say, Loli and the music producer are the only interesting parts of

the new band.

Why did she leave? Couldn't find that story. Jealousy? It's broken up other groups before.

Looks like it's over for DA as their depraved persona has been outed as reality by their adopted children. What a surprise!

The link was on that fan page but you had to scroll down. 'ultrapolpotist' posted a translation of Loli's VK posts to Reddit, which seem authentic.

If you watch their videos you can see that Arseny (blonde guy) takes the rap superstar thing a bit too seriously. He's good, but not that original. Egor, OTOH has an interesting sardonic style which went well with Loli's petulant school girl shtick - they would have made a good duo. What irritates me is this, from an interview on the same fan page:

"Teo (Arseny) and Romanov had known each other for a long time and had been working together in several musical projects by the time the band was formed. After meeting Lolli, they came up with the idea to create a project with her."

So did that include the caveat that either of them could fire her in a moment of childish pique? Makes the case for having a signed contract, doesn't it? And where were the other two when Arseny made that call? If I were their producer I would have said, fine Arseny, you want to be a solo artist, I'll produce you, but I'm not abandoning Loli because she's the headliner, which you both should have realized by now. Obviously that didn't happen, so I don't have a good feeling about any of those guys at this point. I just hope Loli finds a better team to work with because she's very talented and deserves better.

As for Die Antwoort, I don't really follow them, I just used them as an example of how unique stylings can still work in the rap genre, as long as the self-parody element is there, which seems to have disappeared from most rap acts, especially the gansta' stuff. That shit puts me off completely, but then I'm not a white suburban teenager, so what would I know?

As for the accusations, they look like BS to me. SA child welfare authorities looked into it and haven't seen fit to proceed with any action. That doesn't prove anything of course, but neither does one person's accusations, which to me seems more like play for attention than anything else. Who knows, and more to the point, who cares? Given their lifestyle, it's not hard to see how they'd land in controversy since that is central to their image. That's why I prefer the gopnik rappers. A few are hard core, but most (including Loli) seem like the kind of people who'd visit their babushka on weekends and chop firewood for her.
