Jeebus. I plugged Moloko into the Yandex translator and found out that this sweet-voiced, milkmaid-looking singer wrote a Dostoyevskian ballad, just melancholy as heck. I'm almost afraid to run her other lyrics through the translator. The audio flavor of her tunes is very light-hearted, but . . . Russians.
Yes, her name is kinda Deutsch. I follow another youtuber who has a German-sounding last name.
The Genius lyrics link did not work for me so I don't know if Dasha Shultz's songs are happy or sad, ebullient or melancholy. They sound pretty positive. She certainly has a very sweet voice. Nice to hear acoustic instruments and not electronica; it suits her delivery more.
I saw Daughter on their N. American tour several years ago. They are every bit as good live as recorded. Strong emotional impact on their audience. On the way out I overheard a conversation between two young women where one said to the other, "I think I'll go home, eat some ice cream and have a good cry." Being the insensitive male that I am, I LOLed, but she did have a point. Daughter is a real standout act, well worth catching if you get the chance.
I try to keep my own commentary to a minimum in order to not overly influence the listener. That said, language is obviously a barrier with most of what I present, so I try to provide a link to the lyrics where possible. I assume most people know how to use Google Translate or similar apps.
This site takes it to the opposite extreme and analyzes each song in great detail!
Let me know if they work for you and thanks for the feedback. You'll notice her name is often spelled 'Shults' which is probably more correct for a Russian translation. I used the German spelling, which is probably her ancestry as many Germans moved to Russia in the 18th and 19th centuries.
From one of the articles I posted it seems like her parents had something to say about her career choice:
"Dasha is just yesterday's schoolgirl: she is 18 years old (but looks 12), she studies at the Veterinary Academy in St. Petersburg. She chose a serious university at the insistence of her parents, who did not want a bohemian future for their daughter. I thought about enrolling in psychology, but I realized that “I love animals more than people.” "
From a parents perspective it does make sense, especially if they're paying the freight. Parents are often the last to notice an exceptionally talented child though, which Dasha most definitely is. I see star talent here on the order of Bjork, who incidentally Dasha cites as a major influence. I expect we'll hear more from her once her veterinary career is established. By that time she'll no doubt have a larger repertoire and can select the best material for future releases. She plays, sings and writes, plus has two full length releases under her belt already. That will open doors. If I lived in Russia I'd consider financing her myself. I think I know talent when I see it, and she loves animals more than people too, which I can definitely identify with:)

If you liked Dasha, you'll probably like Elena Tonra of the UK band 'Daughter' who Dasha cites as a major influence.

But oddly doesn't provide the lyrics themselves, some of which can be found here.

A delicious sound. Hope she takes care of animals during the day, and sings songs at night...
